University Libraries Announces Alternative Textbook Grant Awardees
The University of Oklahoma Libraries congratulates the 2022 awardees of the Alternative Textbook Grants:

- Dr. Sarah Breen, Biomedical Engineering
- Dr. Ioana Cionea, Communication
- Dr. Andres Gonzalez, Industrial & Systems Engineering
- Casey Haskins, Mathematics
- Dr. David McLeod, Social Work
- Dr. Katherine Pandora, History of Science, Technology, & Medicine
The University Libraries' Alternative Textbook Grant (ATG) incentivizes instructors to abandon costly course materials in favor of those available to their students for free.
Students benefit from alternative textbook grants by gaining access to course materials for perpetuity before the semester even begins.
Faculty can tailor course materials specifically for their needs, based on their expertise, and reduce barriers to access for all students enrolled in their class.
OU Libraries awards up to $2,500 for successful applications, and some colleges award discretionary matching funds. Faculty in colleges offering matching funds have the potential to receive up to $5,000 for their implementations of alternative course materials.
Since 2014, the Alternative Textbook Grant has saved OU students over $4M in course material costs contributing to the North American open education movement's total savings of $1B for the same time period.
