Technology Lending Policy

This policy provides guidelines for borrowing equipment from OU Libraries.

Who Can Borrow Equipment

Current University of Oklahoma faculty, staff, and students with a valid OU ID and no blocks on their library record can borrow equipment from OU Libraries. If you are not currently affiliated with OU, you may not borrow equipment, even if you have borrowing privileges for print materials.

Checking Out Equipment

You must present a valid photo ID to check out equipment. Equipment may be checked out from the time the library opens until fifteen minutes before closing. Visit the OU Libraries Hours page for closing times.

Loan Periods

Equipment loan periods vary and are listed with the description of the item on our Technology Lending page. iPad loans may not be renewed.

Returning Equipment

Items are due fifteen minutes before closing and must be handed to a library employee at the service desk. Equipment may not be returned in the book drop or left on the desk.

As the borrower, you are responsible for deleting all files from the equipment before returning it. You will be asked to show that files have been deleted when checking in equipment. Equipment will not be checked in until all files have been deleted. Laptops are an exception to this rule, as they automatically remove any changes or files when logged off.

Overdue, Lost and Damaged Equipment

Overdue fines for equipment are totaled hourly or daily at varying rates; there are no grace periods, and items are charged their overdue rate as soon as their loan period ends. Visit the Overdue and Lost Items Policy page for rates.

Non-returned equipment will be declared lost when an item is more than 24 hours overdue.

As the borrower, you are responsible for caring for the equipment from the moment it is checked out until it is returned to a library employee. If you lose or damage any equipment, you will be billed the full lost item fine for that item, plus a processing fee.

Technical Support

This Technology Lending Program is designed to provide access to equipment, but does not include instruction on how to use it. Library employees will not provide technical support or instruction on using the equipment. You are encouraged to review the information on the manufacturers' websites for detailed operating instructions. Visit the Technology Lending page for links to manufacturers’ equipment instructions, which are listed in the description of each item. Additionally, some, but not all, equipment operating manuals can be checked out from the circulation desk with the equipment.
