OU Libraries Code of Conduct Policy
OU Libraries strives to create a collegial, professional, and welcoming atmosphere in our physical and virtual spaces. We value and welcome individuals of all backgrounds and identities, including, but not limited to race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity, gender expression, age, religion, disability, citizenship, political beliefs, or veteran status. This policy provides our Code of Conduct expectations for all members and visitors who use OU Libraries.
Code of Conduct Principles
Creating a supportive environment to foster academic progress and ensuring that all members of our community have access to a safe and comfortable working and learning environment is a top priority for our organization. We expect all members of the OU Libraries faculty and staff, as well as visitors to our facilities, to refrain from discrimination, harassment, and bullying behaviors.
How to Report a Violation
If you witness or experience violations of the Code of Conduct principles, we encourage you to make a report to the 24-hour Campus Climate & Incident Response Team or the Title IX Office.
How We Respond
OU Libraries will respond to reports of disruptive behavior, regardless of whether an official complaint is filed with the University, and intervene (in compliance with federal law, state law, and University policies and procedures) in situations in which the working or learning environment is adversely affected. Actions may include, but are not limited to, verbal warning, restriction from participation in designated privileges and activities, and filing a formal complaint with the University. Retaliation for reports of inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated.
Employee’s Responsibilities for Reporting Incidents
When a University employee, with the exception of those designated confidential (OU Advocates; counselors, clergy, attorneys, or physicians engaged in such capacity with the reporter; and the University Ombudsperson), becomes aware of an alleged act of gender discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual violence, sexual exploitation, dating or domestic violence, stalking, or pregnancy discrimination, the employee must promptly share the information with the Title IX Office.
This Code of Conduct is partially adapted from the Homer L. Dodge Department of Physics and Astronomy Code of Conduct and The Carpentries Code of Conduct.
