Check Out Materials Through Proxy Policy

Certain borrowers may designate another person or persons as their proxy, who may check out library materials in their name. A faculty member or administrator may request a proxy authorization for a student worker, a spouse, or a child. This policy outlines the process for arranging a proxy and the responsibilities involved in using this service.

Responsibilities

In all cases, the person who signs for the proxy will be responsible for all items checked out under the proxy arrangement. Any fines or replacement fees are the sole responsibility of the person who fills out the proxy form, and not the proxy holder. This must be clearly understood by the person who fills the proxy application form.

Request Proxy Arrangements

Proxy arrangements can be requested by completing the Proxy Application Form, or by visiting the Circulation Desk at Bizzell Memorial Library or any branch library. Your proxy must be a current OU faculty, staff, student, or other registered patron at OU Libraries.

How to Use the Proxy Arrangement

Every time your proxy presents their ID to check out items, he or she will be asked by the desk attendant if these are for his or her own personal use or for you.

Please alert the circulation department as soon as possible if your proxy arrangement changes for any reason.

Report Fraudulent Use

If you feel your proxy is using the proxy privileges fraudulently and borrowing books for their personal use rather than for you, you should report it to the circulation department as soon as possible so we can attempt to block further use. You can check for unauthorized activity at any time by logging into your OU Libraries account, then choosing Loans to find a list of all books checked out in your name. You are responsible for any items checked out in your name up to the time you report the proxy misuse.
